This ranking of
college football's greatest coaches is based on only one thing: their ability to
win. It does not take into account innovations, contributions to the game,
awards such as "coach of the year" or making the Hall of Fame,
producing All-American or Heisman players, mentoring assistants and players who
became great coaches, or being a nice guy. It does take into account their
circumstances (it is easier to win at Notre Dame than at Northwestern) and the
